The situation has led some BBC staff to call for Lineker to be axed from his position.

Lineker will front the BBC's coverage of the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Crystal Palace on Saturday but The Telegraph reports that any appearance for the corporation beyond that is 'in serious doubt'. The 64-year-old is supposed to continue leading the BBC's Match of the Day show until the end of the season and work with the corporation up until the 2026 World Cup but that may change now.
Lineker, who has repeatedly been the source of much controversy in recent years, will be replaced by Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman, and Kelly Cates next season on the Match of the Day show.
It remains to be seen what will happen to Lineker, who has presented Match of the Day for 26 years, in the coming days and weeks with the BBC.
